A new decade is here. And a memory pops up.
Shooting on film.
I remember being careful that my film canisters wouldn’t overheat in my backpack.
Today I shoot with my phone.
Another memory triggered. In 2007-2008, I exhibited some photos from my travels.
Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Tibet/China, India, Nepal and Thailand.
The title of the exhibit was Ap Dharma — from two key concepts in Buddhism and Hinduism. 'Ap' (water) and 'Dharma' ('collective teachings of The Buddha').
While 'ap' and 'dharma' may seem like separate ideas, they are actually interrelated and Hinduism and Buddhism are often referred to as 'Holy Water Religions'.
This exhibit comprised photographs that relate specifically to religion (monks, monasteries, etc); photographs that feature water (as both a part of daily life and as nature intended it to be); and photographs that interconnect religion and water.
The first exhibition was at The Jerusalem Theatre. The second was in Rishon LeZion’s Cultural Centre.
Another memory.
My mother z”l loved many of these photos. Some of them hang in my parents’ home in Canada.
One memory popped up.
A memory of using film.
Then a memory of my travels. A memory of the exhibitions. And a memory that my mom z”l loved these photos.
One memory filled with so many others.
ב2007-2008 היו לי 2 תערוכות צילומים בארץ. שם התערוכה: אפ דארמה
שם התערוכה הורכב משני מושגים שמקורם בדתות הבודהיזם וההינדוהיזם. 'אפ' משמעותה בסנסקריט מים. מים הם מקורהחיים המהווים בדתות אלו תפקיד מרכזי כיוון שמסמלים טוהר, בהירות ורוגע.
ל'דארמה' יש שני פירושים: התורה והדרך שלימד בודהה או חוקי הטבע. כלומר דארמה יכולה להתפרש בהקשר דתי אובהקשר של טבע.
לכאורה שני המושגים 'אפ' ו'דארמה' לא קשורים זה לזה אך למעשה הם קשורים מאד מאחר ובודהיזם והינדוהיזם מכוניםפעמים רבות כ'דתות של מים קדושים.'
תערוכה זו מכילה צילומים הקשורים באופן ספציפי לדת, למים, ושילוב בין דת ומים.
